1515 A RESOLUTION
1616 Honoring the life of Corporal Dewey E. Rewis, Jr., and dedicating a bridge in his memory;

1818 and for other purposes.2
1919 WHEREAS, our nation's security continues to rely on patriotic men and women who put3
2020 their personal lives on hold in order to place themselves in harm's way to protect the4
2121 freedoms that all United States citizens cherish; and5
2222 WHEREAS, Corporal Dewey E. Rewis, Jr., was a guardian of this nation's freedom and6
2323 liberty with the United States Army, serving in the Korean War; and7
2424 WHEREAS, Corporal Rewis was reported missing in action on December 2, 1950, after his8
2525 unit came under attack during an advance along the eastern banks of the Chosin Reservoir9
2626 in North Korea; and10
2727 WHEREAS, it was reported that Corporal Rewis was held as a prisoner of war and died in11
2828 an area called the Death Valley, which served as a collection point for United Nations12
2929 prisoners, but his remains were not returned home to his family and accounted for until13
3030 October 25, 2022; and14

3333 WHEREAS, Corporal Rewis demonstrated selfless service to this nation and his unyielding

3535 commitment to protecting the people and ideals of the United States in giving the ultimate16
3636 sacrifice will be remembered always; and17
3737 WHEREAS, he embodied the spirit of service, willing to find meaning in something greater18
3838 than himself and it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished19
3939 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating a bridge in his memory.20
4040 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL21
4141 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on State Route 52 over the Alapaha River in22
4242 Echols County is dedicated as the US Army Cpl. Dewey E. Rewis Jr. Memorial Bridge.23
4343 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and24
4444 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the US Army Cpl. Dewey E.25
4545 Rewis Jr. Memorial Bridge.26
4646 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27
4747 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the28
4848 family of Corporal Dewey E. Rewis, Jr., and to the Department of Transportation.29
