| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | with the passing of Dr. Crawford Lewis on January 28, 2023; and3 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | WHEREAS, Dr. Crawford Lewis dedicated innumerable hours of his time and energy to the4 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | well-being of the youth of DeKalb County, Georgia, during his 33 years of service to the5 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | DeKalb County School District; and6 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, beginning in 1997 as a physical education teacher, he rose to his final role as7 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | superintendent as a result of his own hard work and determination, overseeing 137 schools8 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | and centers that serve more than 100,000 students; and9 |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, a visionary who was recognized for his leadership and commitment to10 |
|---|
| 20 | 20 | | education, Dr. Crawford Lewis was honored nationally and locally through numerous11 |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | awards, including the DeKalb Schools Principal of the Year award, the Milken Foundation’s12 |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | National Education Award, the NAACP Education Award, and more; and13 23 LC 112 1281 |

| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, he further served his community as part of various organizations, such as the |

| 27 | 27 | | DeKalb, Metro Atlanta, and Georgia chambers of commerce; the DeKalb Rotary Club; and15 |

| 28 | 28 | | the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County; and16 |

| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, he was united in love and marriage to his wife, Sandra, and was blessed with17 |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | two remarkable children, Denise and Matthew; and18 |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern19 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his20 |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | family and friends were admired by others; and21 |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation22 |

| 35 | 35 | | for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he23 |

| 36 | 36 | | made this world a better place in which to live; and24 |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Dr. Crawford Lewis will long be25 |

| 38 | 38 | | remembered for his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who26 |

| 39 | 39 | | had the great fortune of knowing him.27 |

| 40 | 40 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that28 |

| 41 | 41 | | the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Dr. Crawford Lewis and29 |

| 42 | 42 | | express their deepest and most sincere regret at his passing.30 |
|---|
| 43 | 43 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized31 |
