1818 Recognizing February 27, 2023, as Dominican Republic Independence Day; and for other

2121 WHEREAS, first observed in 144, this year's Dominican Republic Independence Day will3
2222 celebrate 179 years since the Dominican Republic succeeded in its fight against Haitian rule4
2323 and secured its freedom; and5
2424 WHEREAS, as of 2023, there are approximately 90,000 Dominican Americans residing in6
2525 the State of Georgia as well as 518 registered businesses owned by Dominican Americans;7

2727 WHEREAS, Dominican Americans work and serve in many professions and roles across the9
2828 state, including as realtors, artists, doctors, nurses, and students at prestigious institutions10
2929 such as the University of Georgia, Georgia Tech, and many others; and11
3030 WHEREAS, Dominican Americans are further represented in the National Baseball League12
3131 by numerous professional teams, including the Atlanta Braves; and13 23 LC 112 1428

3434 WHEREAS, in recognition of the many wonderful contributions made to this state by its

3636 Dominican American community, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this day be15
3737 appropriately honored.16
3838 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that17
3939 the members of this body recognize February 27, 2023, as Dominican Republic18
4040 Independence Day.19
4141 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized20
4242 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the21
4343 public and the press.22
