R. 386 - 1 - House Resolution 386 By: Representative Crowe of the 118 th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life of Congressman Mac Collins and dedicating an interchange in his memory; 1 and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Michael Allen "Mac" Collins was born in Butts County, Georgia, where he was3 educated in the local school system and later became a businessman and trucking company4 owner; and5 WHEREAS, Congressman Collins began his career in public service and politics in 19776 when he served as chairman of the Butts County Board of Commissioners until 1980; and7 WHEREAS, he served two terms in the Georgia Senate, where he established a reputation8 as a strong conservative leader; and9 WHEREAS, Congressman Collins was elected to the United States House of Representatives10 in 1992 and ably and adeptly represented the people of the Third Congressional District; and11 WHEREAS, during his six terms in the House of Representatives, Congressman Collins12 earned a reputation for his significant organizational and leadership talents, where his13 remarkable patience and diplomacy, keen sense of vision, and sensitivity to the needs of the14 23 LC 39 3811 H. R. 386 - 2 - citizens of this state earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and associates; 15 and16 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished17 Georgian be recognized appropriately by dedicating an interchange in his memory.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL19 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the interchange of Interstate 75 at State Route 16 (Exit 205)20 in Butts County is dedicated as the Congressman Mac Collins Memorial Interchange.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and22 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Congressman Mac Collins23 Memorial Interchange.24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized25 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the26 family of Congressman Mac Collins and to the Department of Transportation.27
