24 LC 46 0717 Senate Bill 385 By: Senators Williams of the 25th, Payne of the 54th, Brass of the 28th, Anavitarte of the 31st, Robertson of the 29th and others A BILL TO BE ENTITLED AN ACT To amend Part 2 of Article 9 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia 1 Annotated, relating to funding, donations, property, and scholarships with respect to Georgia2 Military College, so as to revise legislative intent language regarding certain postsecondary3 study beyond the second year level; to provide for related matters; to repeal conflicting laws;4 and for other purposes.5 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:6 SECTION 1.7 Part 2 of Article 9 of Chapter 3 of Title 20 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated,8 relating to funding, donations, property, and scholarships with respect to the Georgia Military9 College, is amended by revising Code Section 20-3-560, relating to legislative intent, as 10 follows:11 "20-3-560.12 It is the intention of the General Assembly that the Georgia Military College be a13 state-wide institution dedicated to providing a high-quality military education to the youth14 of this state, but built upon its military heritage of duty, honor, and love of country, and15 grounded in the core values of respect, selfless service, integrity, and personal courage.16 Such education shall not be beyond the level of the second year of postsecondary study,17 S. B. 385 - 1 - 24 LC 46 0717 except for Bachelor of Applied Science degree programs which assist graduates of18 institutions under the Technical College System of Georgia in the attainment of a four-year19 bachelor's degree; provided, however, that no branch of the Georgia Military College shall20 offer any Bachelor of Applied Science degree program that is currently being offered by21 an institution of the Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia which is located22 in the same county as such branch; offered only to students enrolled in the Georgia Military23 Global Online Leadership College (GOLC), provided, further, that the level of such24 educational programs shall be subject to the availability of funds appropriated by the25 General Assembly. The student enrollment of the college shall reflect as closely as26 possible the racial and demographic makeup of the state."27 SECTION 2.28 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.29 S.
