A RESOLUTION
Recognizing and commending the accomplishments of Rusty Strawn as CEO of Strawn &

Co. Insurance, an accomplished golfer, and a dedicated family man; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Rusty Strawn is a born and raised Georgian with impeccable southern values3
from McDonough, Georgia. He spent his youth outdoors enjoying life through activities such4
as hunting, fishing, playing baseball, and riding his bike; and5
WHEREAS, Rusty Strawn has dedicated his life to golf, spending countless hours as a youth6
on the Green Valley golf course practicing to then play on the golf team at McDonough7
Christian Academy; it was at the McDonough Christian Academy where Mr. Strawn8
achieved a state championship title his senior year; and9
WHEREAS, in 1981, Rusty Strawn was named the Atlanta Junior Golf Association's player10
of the year; he completed several milestones as a college golf athlete at Alexander City11
Junior College. The team not only made it to the National Junior College Athletic12
Association Championship but also finished as the runner up; Mr. Strawn then took his golf13
career to Georgia Southern University, where he held titles of team captain and was a14
two-time Trans-Atlantic Athletic Conference team member; and15 23 LC 112 1286

WHEREAS, Rusty Strawn embraced his family legacy and carried on his father's work in
16
the family's insurance business, Strawn & Co. Insurance; as the CEO, Mr. Strawn took this17
third-generation company and grew it into five locations across Georgia. Strawn & Co.18
Insurance serves over 8,000 families and businesses, and in 2022, it celebrated its 50th19
anniversary; and20
WHEREAS, while balancing the needs of his company and family, Rusty Strawn found time21
to pursue golf; from the late 80s to the early 90s, he won the Georgia State Golf Association22
Mid-Amateur Championship as well as qualified for multiple United States Amateur23
Championships, Mid-Amateur Championships, and British Amateur Championships; and24
WHEREAS, in Rusty Strawn's late 40s, he began to prepare for senior golf, and by the age25
of 55, he was playing a full senior amateur tournament schedule. Since then, he has won26
over 15 national tournaments throughout the United States. His greatest accomplishment27
came in 2022 at the age of 59 when he won the United States Senior Amateur and the28
Canadian Senior Amateur Championships in back-to-back tournaments. These wins give Mr.29
Strawn a ten-year exemption into the United States Senior Amateur, the Canadian Senior30
Amateur, and the British Senior Amateur; and31
WHEREAS, Rusty Strawn is a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of32
McDonough. Rusty Strawn also serves as chairman of the Board at United Community Bank33
in Southeast Atlanta; furthermore, Mr. Strawn achieved the distinguished Eagle Award at the34
young age of 18 and now serves as the president of the Flint River Council of Boy Scouts of35
America.36
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body37
recognize and commend Rusty Strawn for his many achievements, including three-time38 23 LC 112 1286

Society of Seniors Player of the Year; two-time Golf Week Senior Player of the Year; 2022

AmateurGolf.com Senior Player of the Year; 2022 Global Golf Post World Amateur Player40
of the Year; 2021 and 2022 Global Golf Post World Senior All Amateur 1st Team; winner41
of over 15 national senior events; represented the United States in the 2022 Concession Cup42
Real Club Valderrama in Sotogrande, Spain; represented the Eastern United States in the43
2022 East West Matches at Maridoe Golf Club in Dallas, Texas; and represented Georgia44
State Golf Association in the 2022 Billy Peters Cup at Glen Arven Country Club in45
Thomasville, Georgia.46
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body further recognize and47
appreciate Rusty Strawn's life achievements as they reflect that of a model Georgian.48
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed49
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Rusty Strawn.50
