A RESOLUTION
Honoring and commending Kennesaw State University upon its 60th anniversary and

Southern Polytechnic State University upon its 75th anniversary; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, Kennesaw State University was established in 1963 as Kennesaw Junior3
College and later became Kennesaw College before attaining university status in 1996; it is4
accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools and has grown to become5
one of the largest public universities in Georgia; and6
WHEREAS, Southern Polytechnic State University was founded in 1948 and it stood as a7
beacon of technological education and innovation for 75 years, providing cutting-edge8
programs in engineering, architecture, computer science, and other applied sciences; and9
WHEREAS, Southern Polytechnic State University played a crucial role in preparing10
students for careers in technology, engineering, and industry, contributing to the workforce11
with graduates who have excelled in their respective fields and made significant12
advancements in research and development; and13
WHEREAS, the consolidation of Southern Polytechnic State University with Kennesaw14
State University in 2015 created a comprehensive institution that combined the strengths of15

both entities, which now offers a broad spectrum of academic disciplines while maintaining
16
a commitment to hands-on applied learning; and17
WHEREAS, the legacy of Southern Polytechnic State University continues to thrive within18
Kennesaw State University, with its values of technological excellence and innovation19
permeating the college's academic programs, research endeavors, and community20
engagement initiatives; and21
WHEREAS, Kennesaw State University has continued to grow and now boasts enrollment22
of more than 45,000 students across both campuses; and 23
WHEREAS, the 60th anniversary of Kennesaw State University and the 75th anniversary of24
Southern Polytechnic State University provide an auspicious occasion to celebrate their25
combined achievements, recognize their collective impact on higher education, and look26
forward to a future of continued excellence.27
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body28
honor and commend Kennesaw State University and Southern Polytechnic State University29
upon the grand occasions of their 60th and 75th anniversaries respectively in recognition of30
their significant contributions to education, technological innovation, and workforce31
development.32
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed33
to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the34
press.35
