| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh declared its independence on March 26, 1971, was recognized by3 |

| 9 | 9 | | the United States on April 4, 1972, and this year celebrates 52 years of diplomatic relations;4 |
|---|

|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, the Bangladesh Association of Georgia was established on November 25, 1990,6 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | the date that the first constitution was introduced and approved by the Board of the Executive7 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | Committee members, with a vision to unite and empower Bangladeshi-Americans in8 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | Georgia; and9 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | WHEREAS, the mission of the Bangladesh Association of Georgia is to celebrate, educate,10 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | and elevate. Through a variety of cultural events, educational programs, and community11 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | initiatives, the association strives to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of12 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | Bangladeshi heritage; and13 |

| 21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, during the past 52 years, the United States and Bangladesh have remained |

| 23 | 23 | | closely engaged on a range of issues, including trade, economy, security, governance15 |

| 24 | 24 | | development, and many other global issues; and16 |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, the ties between the United States and Bangladesh go beyond the17 |

| 26 | 26 | | government-to-government level as people-to-people contacts and commercial relationships18 |

| 27 | 27 | | are increasing over the years, and both countries are willing to see this relationship grow in19 |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | depth and dimension over the next 52 years; and20 |

| 29 | 29 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh and the United States share similar views on many international21 |

| 30 | 30 | | issues, including maintaining international peace, security, and stability; the fight against22 |

| 31 | 31 | | terrorism and violent extremism; human rights; the 2030 agenda for sustainable23 |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | development; climate change; and many more; and24 |

| 33 | 33 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh always remembers and recognizes the contributions of the25 |

| 34 | 34 | | American people and their senators and representatives, particularly Senator Ted Kennedy,26 |

| 35 | 35 | | who supported Bangladesh during the war of liberation in 1971; and27 |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | WHEREAS, Bangladesh has made significant socioeconomic progress in the last 52 years,28 |

| 37 | 37 | | including increased food production, disaster resilience, poverty alleviation, improved health29 |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | and education, and women's empowerment; and30 |
|---|
| 39 | 39 | | WHEREAS, for more than a decade, Bangladesh has remained one of the fastest growing31 |

| 40 | 40 | | economies in the world, and its economic growth is not only benefitting its own people but32 |

| 41 | 41 | | is also contributing to the peace, progress, and prosperity of the region; and33 |

| 44 | 44 | | WHEREAS, the United States has been a long-standing partner of Bangladesh in this |

| 46 | 46 | | successful journey of economic and social development and the two-way trade volume35 |

| 47 | 47 | | between the two countries has recently surpassed $9 billion.36 |

| 48 | 48 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body37 |

| 49 | 49 | | recognize and commend the Country of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Association of38 |
|---|
| 50 | 50 | | Georgia for their advocacy, outreach, and encouragement of the new generation of39 |
|---|
| 51 | 51 | | Bangladeshi-Americans to explore Bangladeshi culture and heritage as well as to build40 |
|---|
| 52 | 52 | | bridges with other cultures.41 |
|---|
| 53 | 53 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed42 |
