88 WHEREAS, Bangladesh declared its independence on March 26, 1971, was recognized by3
99 the United States on April 4, 1972, and this year celebrates 52 years of diplomatic relations;4

1111 WHEREAS, the Bangladesh Association of Georgia was established on November 25, 1990,6
1212 the date that the first constitution was introduced and approved by the Board of the Executive7
1313 Committee members, with a vision to unite and empower Bangladeshi-Americans in8
1414 Georgia; and9
1515 WHEREAS, the mission of the Bangladesh Association of Georgia is to celebrate, educate,10
1616 and elevate. Through a variety of cultural events, educational programs, and community11
1717 initiatives, the association strives to promote a deeper understanding and appreciation of12
1818 Bangladeshi heritage; and13

2121 WHEREAS, during the past 52 years, the United States and Bangladesh have remained

2323 closely engaged on a range of issues, including trade, economy, security, governance15
2424 development, and many other global issues; and16
2525 WHEREAS, the ties between the United States and Bangladesh go beyond the17
2626 government-to-government level as people-to-people contacts and commercial relationships18
2727 are increasing over the years, and both countries are willing to see this relationship grow in19
2828 depth and dimension over the next 52 years; and20
2929 WHEREAS, Bangladesh and the United States share similar views on many international21
3030 issues, including maintaining international peace, security, and stability; the fight against22
3131 terrorism and violent extremism; human rights; the 2030 agenda for sustainable23
3232 development; climate change; and many more; and24
3333 WHEREAS, Bangladesh always remembers and recognizes the contributions of the25
3434 American people and their senators and representatives, particularly Senator Ted Kennedy,26
3535 who supported Bangladesh during the war of liberation in 1971; and27
3636 WHEREAS, Bangladesh has made significant socioeconomic progress in the last 52 years,28
3737 including increased food production, disaster resilience, poverty alleviation, improved health29
3838 and education, and women's empowerment; and30
3939 WHEREAS, for more than a decade, Bangladesh has remained one of the fastest growing31
4040 economies in the world, and its economic growth is not only benefitting its own people but32
4141 is also contributing to the peace, progress, and prosperity of the region; and33

4444 WHEREAS, the United States has been a long-standing partner of Bangladesh in this

4646 successful journey of economic and social development and the two-way trade volume35
4747 between the two countries has recently surpassed $9 billion.36
4848 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body37
4949 recognize and commend the Country of Bangladesh and the Bangladesh Association of38
5050 Georgia for their advocacy, outreach, and encouragement of the new generation of39
5151 Bangladeshi-Americans to explore Bangladeshi culture and heritage as well as to build40
5252 bridges with other cultures.41
5353 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed42
5454 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the43
5555 press.44
