1515 A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
1616 AN ACT
1717 To amend Code Section 20-2-212 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to

1919 salary schedules for professionals in elementary and secondary education, so as to require2
2020 that the state minimum salary schedule shall be updated each year; to provide that such3
2121 updates shall correspond to annual inflation and deflation rates; to provide for related4
2222 matters; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.5
2323 BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:6
2424 SECTION 1.7
2525 Code Section 20-2-212 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to salary8
2626 schedules for professionals in elementary and secondary education, is amended by revising9
2727 subsection (c) and by adding a new subsection to read as follows:10
2828 "(c) A local unit of administration shall pay beginning classroom teachers the first salary11
2929 payment for the number of days worked at the end of the first month of the school year in12
3030 which service is rendered.13
3131 (d)
3232 The State Board of Education shall develop rules and procedures for implementing this14
3333 subsection by July 1, 2001 2025. Such rules and procedures shall provide for, at a15
3434 minimum, the following:16

3737 (1) That the minimum salary schedule required by this Code section shall be updated17
3838 each year by December 1; and18
3939 (2) That each update provided for in paragraph (1) of this subsection shall reflect the19
4040 effect of annual inflation or deflation for the immediately preceding calendar year in20
4141 accordance with rules and regulations adopted by the State Board of Education, which21
4242 rules and regulations may use for this purpose the Consumer Price Index as reported by22
4343 the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States Department of Labor or any other23
4444 similar index established by the federal government, if the State Board of Education24
4545 determines that such federal index reflects the effect of inflation and deflation on25
4646 certificated professional personnel."26
4747 SECTION 2.27
4848 This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2025.28
4949 SECTION 3.29
5050 All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.30
