A BILL TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
To amend Code Section 20-2-212 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to

salary schedules for professionals in elementary and secondary education, so as to require2
that the state minimum salary schedule shall be updated each year; to provide that such3
updates shall correspond to annual inflation and deflation rates; to provide for related4
matters; to provide for an effective date; to repeal conflicting laws; and for other purposes.5
BE IT ENACTED BY THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA:6
SECTION 1.7
Code Section 20-2-212 of the Official Code of Georgia Annotated, relating to salary8
schedules for professionals in elementary and secondary education, is amended by revising9
subsection (c) and by adding a new subsection to read as follows:10
"(c)  A local unit of administration shall pay beginning classroom teachers the first salary11
payment for the number of days worked at the end of the first month of the school year in12
which service is rendered.13
(d)
  The State Board of Education shall develop rules and procedures for implementing this14
subsection by July 1, 2001 2025. Such rules and procedures shall provide for, at a15
minimum, the following:16

(1)  That the minimum salary schedule required by this Code section shall be updated17
each year by December 1; and18
(2)  That each update provided for in paragraph (1) of this subsection shall reflect the19
effect of annual inflation or deflation for the immediately preceding calendar year in20
accordance with rules and regulations adopted by the State Board of Education, which21
rules and regulations may use for this purpose the Consumer Price Index as reported by22
the Bureau of Labor Statistics of the United States Department of Labor or any other23
similar index established by the federal government, if the State Board of Education24
determines that such federal index reflects the effect of inflation and deflation on25
certificated professional personnel."26
SECTION 2.27
This Act shall become effective on July 1, 2025.28
SECTION 3.29
All laws and parts of laws in conflict with this Act are repealed.30
