25 LC 44 2907 House Resolution 11 By: Representative Davis of the 87 th A RESOLUTION Urging the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection 1 Agency, and the DeKalb County government to resolve sewage pollution and spills; and for2 other purposes.3 WHEREAS, sewage pollution and spills have been a persistent issue in various areas of4 DeKalb County, disproportionately affecting predominantly Black "nonpriority" areas; and5 WHEREAS, the health and well-being of residents in these areas are compromised due to6 the adverse effects of sewage pollution on the environment and public health; and7 WHEREAS, it is essential to address these issues promptly and ensure that all residents of8 DeKalb County have access to clean and safe environments; and9 WHEREAS, there is a disparity between the prioritization of areas in DeKalb County, with10 North DeKalb receiving preferential treatment over South DeKalb.11 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that12 the members of this body urge the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the13 Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb County government to take immediate14 H. R. 11 - 1 - 25 LC 44 2907 and comprehensive actions to fix and eliminate sewage pollution and spills in predominantly 15 Black "nonpriority" areas of DeKalb County.16 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body urge the G eorgia17 Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb18 County government to establish a date certain within a consent decree for the resolution of19 sewage pollution and spills in these areas, prioritizing the protection of the environment and20 the health of residents.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the members of this body encourage the Georgia22 Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection Agency, and the DeKalb23 County government to treat South DeKalb with the same level of priority as North DeKalb24 in addressing sewage pollution and spills, ensuring that equitable resources and efforts are25 allocated to both regions.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized27 and directed to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to28 officials of the Georgia Environmental Protection Division, the Environmental Protection29 Agency, and the DeKalb County government.30 H.
