25 LC 129 0113 House Resolution 176 By: Representative Smith of the 70 th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Johnese Threadcraft; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Johnese Threadcraft on November 18, 2024; and3 WHEREAS, Johnese Threadcraft was born on June 12, 1951, in Calhoun County, Georgia,4 a beloved daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Morris Lee Threadcraft Sr.; and5 WHEREAS, she demonstrated remarkable courage in her early years by voluntarily6 integrating Calhoun County High School before mandatory integration, excelling in her7 studies and graduating with honors; and8 WHEREAS, she continued her education at Georgia Southwestern College in Americus,9 Georgia, where she again graduated with honors before embarking on a distinguished career10 as an educator; and11 WHEREAS, she began her professional career as an English and French teacher in Randolph12 County and later continued her work in Atlanta at Henderson High School and Salem High13 School in the DeKalb County School System; and14 H. R. 176 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0113 WHEREAS, her passion for education extended beyond the classroom, leading her to serve 15 as a system-wide writing coordinator for DeKalb County and as president of the DeKalb16 County Association of Educators; and17 WHEREAS, she was a devoted and active member of Beulah Missionary Baptist Church,18 where she served as president of the Usher's Board and worked tirelessly with the Learning19 and Educational Advancement Program (LEAP) Tutorial Program; and20 WHEREAS, Johnese Threadcraft remained a strong advocate for youth, racial justice, and21 educational excellence throughout her life; and22 WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation23 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,24 she made this world a better place in which to live; and25 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Johnese Threadcraft will long be26 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who27 had the great fortune of knowing her.28 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that29 the members of this body join in honoring the life and memory of Johnese Threadcraft and30 express their deepest and most sincere regret at her passing.31 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized32 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the33 family of Johnese Threadcraft.34 H.
