25 LC 112 2857 House Resolution 199 By: Representatives Santos of the 117 th , Kahaian of the 81 st , Holly of the 116 th , Flournoy of the 74 th , and Douglas of the 78 th A RESOLUTION Commending the Henry County High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps 1 Warhawk Battalion; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, the Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (NJROTC) Warhawk3 Battalion at Henry County High School in McDonough, Georgia, is both the oldest and one4 of the most decorated NJROTC units in Henry County; and5 WHEREAS, the Warhawk Battalion has been selected as a Distinguished Unit 19 times in6 the last 20 years and has earned Unit Achievement twice, placing it among the top 20 percent7 of over 600 NJROTC units nationwide; and8 WHEREAS, the program is led by Retired Chief Warrant Officer-4 Rawley Colemon, Senior9 Naval Science Instructor; Retired Master Chief Petty Officer Sanja Walker, Naval Science10 Instructor; and Retired Chief Petty Officer Timothy Welch, Naval Science Instructor, whose11 leadership and dedication have greatly contributed to the success of the program and its12 cadets; and13 WHEREAS, in the past five years, eight cadets from the Warhawk Battalion have gained14 entrance into United States service academies while others have pursued higher education15 H. R. 199 - 1 - 25 LC 112 2857 at institutions such as the University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Morehouse 16 College, Spelman College, Savannah State University, Alabama A&M University, Georgia17 Southern University, and Gordon College, among many others; and18 WHEREAS, the Warhawk Battalion emphasizes the importance of community involvement19 through participation in events such as the annual Veterans Day Parade, Christmas Canned20 Food Drive, and Christmas Parade as well as service projects for the Heritage Park Veterans21 Memorial, the American Cancer Society Relay for Life, the "Hands-on-Henry" Community22 Clean-up, and Noah's Ark; and23 WHEREAS, the program further enhances cadet development through field trips, including24 an overnight visit to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island in South Carolina,25 exposing cadets to national historical landmarks and military traditions; and26 WHEREAS, through its commitment to leadership, academic excellence, and community27 service, the Henry County High School NJROTC Warhawk Battalion continues to shape the28 next generation of disciplined and service-oriented leaders.29 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30 the members of this body commend the Henry County High School Navy Junior Reserve31 Officers Training Corps Warhawk Battalion for its decades of service to Henry County and32 extend best wishes for the continued success of its cadets.33 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the35 Henry County High School Navy Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps Warhawk36 Battalion.37 H.
