1111 Congratulating and commending Marietta City Schools, recipient of the Georgia Reads

1313 Community Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other purposes.2
1414 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth3
1515 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critical role in addressing low4
1616 literacy rates; and5
1717 WHEREAS, the Georgia Reads Community Award was established to recognize6
1818 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,7
1919 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and measurable results in literacy8
2020 improvement; and9
2121 WHEREAS, Marietta City Schools is a recipient of the Georgia Reads Community Award10
2222 for its city-wide collaboration Literacy & Justice For All, which began in Marietta to support11
2323 language and literacy from the third trimester of pregnancy through age five, with the goal12
2424 of building the deep reading brain of every child; and13
2525 WHEREAS, its meaningful partnerships include Marietta City Schools, United Way of14
2626 Greater Atlanta, Rollins Center for Language and Literacy, Cobb Collaborative, and15

2929 Wellstar, demonstrating a strong commitment to literacy development through early

3131 childhood education and community collaboration; and17
3232 WHEREAS, Marietta City Schools has diligently developed and implemented innovative18
3333 programs that have significantly increased literacy rates within its communities; and19
3434 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,20
3535 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and21
3636 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of Marietta City Schools and its partners serve as22
3737 an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of community-driven solutions to address23
3838 literacy challenges.24
3939 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that25
4040 the members of this body congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award26
4141 recipients, particularly Marietta City Schools, for their exemplary service and unwavering27
4242 commitment to improving literacy in their communities.28
4343 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized29
4444 and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to30
4545 Marietta City Schools.31
