A RESOLUTION
Congratulating and commending Brinca Y. McMickens for receiving the 2025 Yellow Rose

Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award; and for other purposes.2
WHEREAS, in 1999, Representative Nikki T. Randall became the first African American3
female elected to the General Assembly from middle Georgia, and over her 17 years of4
service as a legislator, she held numerous leadership positions, including chair of the Georgia5
Women's Legislative Caucus; and6
WHEREAS, every year during Women's History Month, the Georgia Women's Legislative7
Caucus recognizes outstanding women in Georgia who exemplify the leadership and8
inspiration embodied by Representative Randall; and9
WHEREAS, Brinca Y. McMickens is a woman of unassuming greatness whose humble acts10
of kindness and generosity have uplifted the entire country; and11
WHEREAS, at age 11, Brinca successfully advocated for the creation of the Minority to12
Majority Program in Georgia, allowing students to attend schools outside of their districts,13
and she was chosen by Governor Jimmy Carter to represent Georgia in Boston,14
Massachusetts, as a spokesperson to encourage the integration of public schools; and 15

WHEREAS, in 1999, Brinca advocated for the Olmstead Law, affirming the rights of
16
individuals with mental health conditions and intellectual disabilities to live in their17
communities; and 18
WHEREAS, Brinca has led numerous community initiatives, including organizing block19
parties to promote voter participation; partnering with Lady T's Homeless Ministry to provide20
meals for more than 900 unhoused individuals each week; sponsoring a pocketbook drive21
that distributed over 200 purses filled with personal hygiene items to homeless girls, women,22
and children; and coordinating a winter hat drive that provided over 100 personally knitted23
warm caps to unhoused individuals; and24
WHEREAS, she has established a glowing reputation of renown throughout Georgia for her25
leadership as a board member for New Kids Productions, as chair of the Lithonia Community26
District, and as creator of "The Equalyzer," a community advocacy and activism podcast; and27
WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding accomplishments of this28
extraordinary servant leader be appropriately recognized.29
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES that30
the members of this body congratulate and commend Brinca Y. McMickens for receiving the31
2025 Yellow Rose Nikki T. Randall Servant Leadership Award and extend best wishes for32
her continued success.33
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Clerk of the House of Representatives is authorized34
and directed to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to35
Brinca Y. McMickens.36
