12 | 12 | | WHEREAS, in 2023, the General Assembly recognized the importance of literacy with the6 |

13 | 13 | | passage of two bills: SB 211, which created the Georgia Council on Literacy, and HB 538,7 |

14 | 14 | | which required comprehensive education reforms for reading instruction in the science of8 |
---|

16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy and its 30 members began work on July 1,10 |

17 | 17 | | 2023, monitoring the implementation of the Early Literacy Act, reviewing literacy data11 |

18 | 18 | | among various populations, and creating Georgia's 2030 State Literacy Plan with the goal12 |

19 | 19 | | of becoming the state with the greatest literacy gains in the country and ensuring that every13 |

32 | 32 | | programs, the Share the Magic Foundation has reached students not only in Atlanta and23 |

34 | 34 | | WHEREAS, Malcolm's ability to connect with young students makes his Read with Malcolm25 |

35 | 35 | | programs effective in motivating children to read, parents to serve as role models, and26 |

36 | 36 | | communities to join in turning around the state's literacy challenges and turning the page to27 |

38 | 38 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body29 |
