25 LC 129 0124 Senate Resolution 172 By: Senators Orrock of the 36th, Esteves of the 35th, James of the 28th, Kemp of the 38th, Parent of the 44th and others A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Paul Zucca; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Paul Zucca on October 31, 2024; and3 WHEREAS, Paul Zucca was a dedicated advocate for Grant Park and Southeast Atlanta who4 served on numerous committees, boards, and organizations at the city, county, and state5 levels to improve the community; and6 WHEREAS, after moving from Midtown, he served as president of the Grant Park7 Neighborhood Association and later as chairman of Neighborhood Planning Unit-W, helping8 to strengthen bonds among East Atlanta, SAND, and Grant Park while securing resources9 to support local growth; and10 WHEREAS, he was an early supporter of the Neighborhood Charter School and the Atlanta11 Charter Middle School before their merger, believing that all children deserved access to12 quality education; and13 S. R. 172 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0124 WHEREAS, he further served as a longtime representative for Zoo Atlanta, advocating for 14 its promotion and preservation as a vital neighborhood asset; and15 WHEREAS, he was united in love to his life partner of 47 years, John Newcomb, and the16 two were blessed with a remarkable son, Dylan; and17 WHEREAS, he gave inspiration to many through his high ideals, morals, and deep concern18 for his fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding he demonstrated to his19 family and friends were admired by others; and20 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation21 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he22 made this world a better place in which to live; and23 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous man, Paul Zucca will long be remembered for24 his love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the great25 fortune of knowing him.26 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27 join in honoring the life and memory of Paul Zucca and express their deepest and most28 sincere regret at his passing.29 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed30 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of Paul31 Zucca.32 S.
