66 Congratulating and commending Marietta City Schools, recipient of the Georgia Reads

88 Community Award, for its dedication to literacy advancement; and for other purposes.2
99 WHEREAS, the Georgia Council on Literacy is dedicated to improving literacy from birth3
1010 through adulthood and recognizes that communities play a critical role in addressing low4
1111 literacy rates; and5
1212 WHEREAS, the Georgia Reads Community Award was established to recognize6
1313 communities across Georgia that have formed partnerships of two or more organizations,7
1414 sustained for at least three years, with a strategic plan and measurable results in literacy8
1515 improvement; and9
1616 WHEREAS, Marietta City Schools is a recipient of the Georgia Reads Community Award10
1717 for its city-wide collaboration Literacy & Justice For All, which began in Marietta to support11
1818 language and literacy from the third trimester of pregnancy through age five, with the goal12
1919 of building the deep reading brain of every child; and13
2020 WHEREAS, its meaningful partnerships include Marietta City Schools, United Way of14
2121 Greater Atlanta, Rollins Center for Language and Literacy, Cobb Collaborative, and15

2424 Wellstar, demonstrating a strong commitment to literacy development through early

2626 childhood education and community collaboration; and17
2727 WHEREAS, Marietta City Schools has diligently developed and implemented innovative18
2828 programs that have significantly increased literacy rates within its communities; and19
2929 WHEREAS, these initiatives have led to measurable improvements in reading proficiency,20
3030 ensuring greater opportunities for success in education and career development; and21
3131 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of Marietta City Schools and its partners serve as22
3232 an inspiration to others, demonstrating the power of community-driven solutions to address23
3333 literacy challenges.24
3434 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body25
3535 congratulate and commend the Georgia Reads Community Award recipients, particularly26
3636 Marietta City Schools, for their exemplary service and unwavering commitment to improving27
3737 literacy in their communities.28
3838 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed29
3939 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Marietta City30
4040 Schools.31
