25 LC 33 9792 Senate Resolution 244 By: Senators Rhett of the 33rd and James of the 28th A RESOLUTION Encouraging all states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment and commending those states 1 which have already done so; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, in 1972, the 92nd Congress of the United States of America adopted a proposed3 Twenty-eighth Amendment, relating to equal rights, to the United States Constitution; and4 WHEREAS, to date, 38 states have ratified the Equal Rights Amendment, which meets the5 requirements of ratification by three-fourths of the states; and6 WHEREAS, if all states ratified such amendment, it would serve as a show of support7 nationwide for the Equal Rights Amendment.8 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body9 encourage the remaining states to ratify the Equal Rights Amendment as the Twenty-eighth10 Amendment to the Constitution of the United States and commend those states which have11 already done so.12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed13 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to other states.14 S.
