88 WHEREAS, Colonel (Ret.) Harriet Staten honorably served for 24 years as a Logistics2
99 Officer in the United States Army, commanding two Headquarters Companies, instructing3
1010 ROTC students at the University of North Carolina, and concluding her career as Executive4
1111 Officer to the Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Reserve Command5
1212 at Fort McPherson, Georgia; and6
1313 WHEREAS, her exemplary service earned her numerous military awards and decorations,7
1414 including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters,8
1515 the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and many more; and9
1616 WHEREAS, following her military career, Colonel (Ret.) Staten became a licensed Georgia10
1717 Real Estate Broker and established Promise Realty Inc. and HLS & Associates LLC; and11
1818 WHEREAS, she has remained actively involved in various professional and community12
1919 organizations, including serving as President Emeritus of the Atlanta Metro Chapter of the13
2020 National Association of Black Military Women; and14

2323 WHEREAS, she further serves as a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association of

2525 America, the Association of the United States Army, the National Association of Black16
2626 Military Women, and Disabled American Veterans; and17
2727 WHEREAS, Colonel (Ret.) Staten is a person of magnanimous strengths with an18
2828 unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and19
2929 WHEREAS, her selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of20
3030 human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding21
3131 accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be appropriately honored.22
3232 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23
3333 recognize and commend Colonel (Ret.) Harriet Staten for her effective, unselfish, and24
3434 dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and this nation and extend the most sincere25
3535 best wishes for continued health and happiness.26
3636 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27
3737 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Colonel (Ret.)28
