Harriet Staten; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, Colonel (Ret.) Harriet Staten honorably served for 24 years as a Logistics2 Officer in the United States Army, commanding two Headquarters Companies, instructing3 ROTC students at the University of North Carolina, and concluding her career as Executive4 Officer to the Deputy Commanding General of the United States Army Reserve Command5 at Fort McPherson, Georgia; and6 WHEREAS, her exemplary service earned her numerous military awards and decorations,7 including the Legion of Merit, the Meritorious Service Medal with two Oak Leaf Clusters,8 the Army Commendation Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters, and many more; and9 WHEREAS, following her military career, Colonel (Ret.) Staten became a licensed Georgia10 Real Estate Broker and established Promise Realty Inc. and HLS & Associates LLC; and11 WHEREAS, she has remained actively involved in various professional and community12 organizations, including serving as President Emeritus of the Atlanta Metro Chapter of the13 National Association of Black Military Women; and14 S. R. 339 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3250 WHEREAS, she further serves as a lifetime member of the Military Officers Association of 15 America, the Association of the United States Army, the National Association of Black16 Military Women, and Disabled American Veterans; and17 WHEREAS, Colonel (Ret.) Staten is a person of magnanimous strengths with an18 unimpeachable reputation for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness; and19 WHEREAS, her selfless and heroic actions stand as a shining tribute to the strength of20 human spirit and willpower, and it is abundantly fitting and proper that the outstanding21 accomplishments of this remarkable and distinguished American be appropriately honored.22 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body23 recognize and commend Colonel (Ret.) Harriet Staten for her effective, unselfish, and24 dedicated public service to the State of Georgia and this nation and extend the most sincere25 best wishes for continued health and happiness.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Colonel (Ret.)28 Harriet Staten.29 S.
