99 WHEREAS, January 27, 2025, marks the 80th anniversary of the liberation of3
1010 Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest and most notorious Nazi concentration and extermination4
1111 camp, where approximately 1.1 million men, women, and children were systematically5
1212 murdered; and6
1313 WHEREAS, International Holocaust Remembrance Day is a solemn occasion to honor the7
1414 six million Jews and millions of other innocent victims who perished during the Holocaust,8
1515 while also serving as a reminder of the enduring need to confront hatred, bigotry, and9
1616 antisemitism; and10
1717 WHEREAS, antisemitism is on the rise globally, including in the State of Georgia, where11
1818 Jewish communities have faced growing incidents of hate and discrimination; and12
1919 WHEREAS, on October 7, 2023, the Jewish people endured the deadliest attack against them13
2020 since the Holocaust by the terrorist organization Hamas while peacefully living in their14

2323 homeland, the State of Israel, underscoring the persistent and dangerous threat of

2525 antisemitism worldwide; and16
2626 WHEREAS, the Georgia General Assembly took a critical step in combating antisemitism17
2727 by passing House Bill 30 during the previous legislative session, formally adopting the18
2828 International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance (IHRA) definition of antisemitism into19
2929 Georgia law; and20
3030 WHEREAS, despite this progress, it is imperative that Georgia lawmakers remain vigilant21
3131 and proactive in addressing antisemitism in our schools, communities, and public institutions,22
3232 ensuring that hate and intolerance have no place in this state; and23
3333 WHEREAS, the observance of International Holocaust Remembrance Day is not only a time 24
3434 for reflection but also a call to action to combat contemporary forms of antisemitism and25
3535 safeguard the rights and dignity of all people.26
3636 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
3737 recognize January 27, 2025, as International Holocaust Remembrance Day in Georgia, honor28
3838 the memory of the victims of the Holocaust, condemn all forms of antisemitism and hate, and29
3939 reaffirm the commitment to fostering a state that stands firmly against prejudice and30
4040 discrimination.31
4141 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32
4242 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the33
4343 press.34
