88 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
99 with the passing of Angela Laverne Stone on March 1, 2025; and3
1010 WHEREAS, Angela Laverne Stone was born on December 18, 1961, in Columbia, South4
1111 Carolina, and from an early age, she displayed a deep passion for music, beginning her5
1212 journey as a Gospel singer at First Nazareth Baptist Church; and6
1313 WHEREAS, she was a pioneering force in the music industry, rising to prominence in the7
1414 late 1970s as a member of the hip-hop trio The Sequence and later achieving critical and8
1515 commercial success as a solo artist with multiple gold-certified albums and chart-topping9
1616 singles; and10
1717 WHEREAS, throughout her illustrious career, she contributed significantly to the evolution11
1818 of R&B and neo-soul, earning three Grammy Award nominations, two Soul Train Lady of12
1919 Soul Awards, and the Soul Music Icon Award at the Black Music Honors; and13

2222 WHEREAS, in addition to her remarkable music career, she performed as an actress in

2424 numerous films, television series, and stage productions, making her film debut in the 200215
2525 comedy film The Hot Chick and her stage debut in 2003 in the role of Big Mama Morton in16
2626 the Broadway musical Chicago; and17
2727 WHEREAS, Angela Laverne Stone was a woman of profound artistic talent and boundless18
2828 generosity, inspiring generations with her music, advocacy, and unwavering commitment to19
2929 her craft; and20
3030 WHEREAS, a compassionate and gifted individual, Angela Laverne Stone will long be21
3131 remembered for her groundbreaking contributions to music and entertainment and will be22
3232 deeply missed by all who had the great fortune of knowing her.23
3333 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24
3434 join in honoring the life and memory of Angela Laverne Stone and express their deepest and25
3535 most sincere regret at her passing.26
3636 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27
3737 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of28
3838 Angela Laverne Stone.29
