25 LC 112 3328 Senate Resolution 375 By: Senator James of the 28th A RESOLUTION Commending Savannah Feed the Hungry; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, Savannah Feed the Hungry was established in 2009 and has since provided over2 1.5 million meals across 14 cities in Georgia and South Carolina; and3 WHEREAS, founded during a time of economic hardship, Savannah Feed the Hungry has4 grown into one of the nation's largest holiday meal programs, serving more than 50,0005 individuals annually; and6 WHEREAS, in partnership with St. Joseph's/Candler, Savannah Feed the Hungry opened the7 Empowerment Center in 2019, a one-stop resource center dedicated to helping individuals8 achieve long-term self-sufficiency; and9 WHEREAS, the Empowerment Center has assisted over 244 individuals in transitioning10 from renting to homeownership while also offering GED classes, continuing education,11 after-school programs, conflict resolution training, and various workshops and seminars; and12 S. R. 375 - 1 - 25 LC 112 3328 WHEREAS, Savannah Feed the Hungry further collaborates with Savannah Technical 13 College, Saint Leo University, the Georgia Ports Authority, Georgia Power, and numerous14 other organizations to provide educational and professional opportunities; and15 WHEREAS, through its unwavering commitment to service and the support of hundreds of16 volunteers, Savannah Feed the Hungry continues to uplift individuals and families in Georgia17 and beyond, making it abundantly fitting and proper that it be appropriately honored.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body19 commend Savannah Feed the Hungry for its outstanding contributions on behalf of those in20 need as well as extend best wishes for continued success.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed22 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to Savannah Feed23 the Hungry.24 S.
