| 8 | 8 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Daryl Wayne Smallwood served as a guardian of this nation's freedom3 |

| 9 | 9 | | and liberty as a member of the United States Marine Corps, embodying the Marine values4 |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | of honor, courage, and commitment; and5 |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Smallwood was highly regarded by the citizens of his community and6 |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication7 |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | to the sound principles of law enforcement; and8 |
|---|
| 14 | 14 | | WHEREAS, he began his career in law enforcement with the Dooly County Sheriff's Office,9 |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | where he served with professionalism and honor for eight years, and he later served with the10 |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | Crisp County Sheriff's Office and the Peach County Sheriff's Office; and 11 |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, Deputy Smallwood's life was tragically cut short in November of 2016, when12 |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | he took on gunfire while responding to a neighbor dispute call; and13 |

| 23 | 23 | | for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he15 |

| 24 | 24 | | made this world a better place in which to live; and16 |

| 25 | 25 | | WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished17 |

| 26 | 26 | | Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating a bridge in his memory.18 |

| 27 | 27 | | NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL19 |

| 28 | 28 | | ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on State Route 247 over Interstate 75 in Peach20 |

| 29 | 29 | | County is dedicated as the Deputy Daryl Smallwood Memorial Bridge.21 |

| 30 | 30 | | BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and22 |

| 31 | 31 | | directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Deputy Daryl Smallwood23 |
