25 LC 39 4760 Senate Resolution 414 By: Senators Kennedy of the 18th and Walker III of the 20th A RESOLUTION Honoring the life and memory of Deputy Daryl Wayne Smallwood and dedicating a bridge 1 in his memory; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Deputy Daryl Wayne Smallwood served as a guardian of this nation's freedom3 and liberty as a member of the United States Marine Corps, embodying the Marine values4 of honor, courage, and commitment; and5 WHEREAS, Deputy Smallwood was highly regarded by the citizens of his community and6 state and by local government officials as a person of unquestioned integrity and dedication7 to the sound principles of law enforcement; and8 WHEREAS, he began his career in law enforcement with the Dooly County Sheriff's Office,9 where he served with professionalism and honor for eight years, and he later served with the10 Crisp County Sheriff's Office and the Peach County Sheriff's Office; and 11 WHEREAS, Deputy Smallwood's life was tragically cut short in November of 2016, when12 he took on gunfire while responding to a neighbor dispute call; and13 S. R. 414 - 1 - 25 LC 39 4760 WHEREAS, he was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation 14 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example he made of his life, he15 made this world a better place in which to live; and16 WHEREAS, it is abundantly fitting and proper that this remarkable and distinguished17 Georgian be appropriately recognized by dedicating a bridge in his memory.18 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED AND ENACTED BY THE GENERAL19 ASSEMBLY OF GEORGIA that the bridge on State Route 247 over Interstate 75 in Peach20 County is dedicated as the Deputy Daryl Smallwood Memorial Bridge.21 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Department of Transportation is authorized and22 directed to erect and maintain appropriate signs dedicating the Deputy Daryl Smallwood23 Memorial Bridge.24 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed25 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the family of26 Deputy Daryl Wayne Smallwood and to the Department of Transportation.27 S.
