A RESOLUTION
Honoring the life and memory of Lottie Watkins; and for other purposes.

WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2
with the passing of Lottie Watkins; and3
WHEREAS, Lottie Watkins was born on June 4, 1918, in Atlanta, Georgia; and4
WHEREAS, in 1960, she paved the way for Black real estate professionals and home owners5
with the founding of Lottie Watkins Enterprises, Inc.; and 6
WHEREAS, she selflessly served in the Georgia House of Representatives from 1977 to7
1980, advocating for economic development, civil rights, social justice, and voter rights; and8
WHEREAS, in 2023, a marker was installed at the Lottie Watkins building on Ralph David9
Abernathy Boulevard, in West End, Atlanta, to commemorate her legacy as a trail blazer in10
real estate, politics, and community development; and11

WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern

for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to 13
her family and friends were admired by others; and14
WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation15
for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,16
she made this world a better place in which to live; and17
WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Lottie Watkins will long be remembered18
for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who had the19
great fortune of knowing her.20
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body21
join in honoring the life and memory of Lottie Watkins and express their deepest and most22
sincere regret at her passing.23
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed24
to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the family of25
Lottie Watkins.26
