Dorsey; and for other purposes. 1 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia mourns the loss of one of its most distinguished citizens2 with the passing of Hattie B. Dorsey on May 29, 2024; and3 WHEREAS, Hattie B. Dorsey was a visionary leader and the founding President and CEO4 of the Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership, Inc.;and 5 WHEREAS, she was a tireless advocate for affordable and mixed-income housing, and6 devoted her life to creating opportunities for families and communities across metro Atlanta;7 and 8 WHEREAS, throughout her distinguished career, Hattie B. Dorsey broke racial and gender9 barriers in government and nonprofit leadership, serving in key roles with the United States10 Department of the Interior, Mayor Ivan Allen, United States Representative Charles Weltner,11 and the NAACP Legal Defense Fund; and 12 WHEREAS, upon returning to Atlanta in 1984, she served as Vice President of the Atlanta13 Economic Development Corporation, now Invest Atlanta, where she worked to increase14 S. R. 492 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0425 minority participation in major redevelopment projects and address the decline of historically 15 Black neighborhoods; and16 WHEREAS, in partnership with civic leaders, she helped establish Atlanta Neighborhood17 Development Partnership, Inc., and led the organization for 15 years, securing over $1518 million for community development organizations and launching one of the region's first19 United States Treasury Certified Development Financial Institutions; and20 WHEREAS, her work laid the foundation for Atlanta's current housing initiatives and21 inspired a generation of leaders, as well as left behind a powerful legacy of leadership,22 compassion, and service; and23 WHEREAS, she gave inspiration to many through her high ideals, morals, and deep concern24 for her fellow citizens, and the devotion, patience, and understanding she demonstrated to25 her family and friends were admired by others; and26 WHEREAS, she was a person of magnanimous strengths with an unimpeachable reputation27 for integrity, intelligence, fairness, and kindness, and by the example she made of her life,28 she made this world a better place in which to live; and29 WHEREAS, a compassionate and generous woman, Hattie B. Dorsey will long be30 remembered for her love of family, friendship, and community and will be missed by all who31 had the great fortune of knowing her.32 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body33 join in honoring the life and memory of Hattie B. Dorsey and express their deepest and most34 sincere regret at her passing.35 S.
