66 Recognizing and commending Georgia's working women for their contributions toward

88 building strong families and supporting the Georgia Economy; and for other purposes.2
99 WHEREAS, Georgia strives to remain the number one state to do business, and economic3
1010 security is an important concern for women, their children, their partners, and for the health4
1111 of Georgia's communities and economy; and 5
1212 WHEREAS, women comprise more than half of Georgia's adult population and are the6
1313 primary or co-breadwinners in more than half of all Georgia households with children,7
1414 making up over 65 percent of the low-wage, essential worker workforce; and8
1515 WHEREAS, research has shown that policy solutions such as salary transparency, increased9
1616 paid sick days and paid leave, accessible and affordable childcare, stable housing and10
1717 workplace protections have a positive impact on women and families, and would boast the11
1818 Georgia economy by as much as $4.4 billion; and12
1919 WHEREAS, access to healthy foods, clean air and water, public transportation, affordable13
2020 and safe housing, and equitable utility services are all integral to a working woman and her14
2121 family's health and financial stability; and15

2424 WHEREAS, protections for pregnant women at work ensures that women remain an integral

2626 part of the workforce, have healthy pregnancies and deliveries, and strengthens Georgia17
2727 families; and18
2828 WHEREAS, Georgia currently has the third highest uninsured rate in the country, affordable19
2929 and accessible healthcare equates to a stronger and healthier workforce; and20
3030 WHEREAS, 60 percent of all Georgians cannot access the unpaid Family Medical Leave Act21
3131 due to eligibility or being unable to afford to take leave without pay; implementing policies22
3232 such as paid leave increases women's labor force participation rate.23
3333 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24
3434 support legislation that would provide the economic support and security that women, their25
3535 families, and the Georgia economy need.26
3636 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27
3737 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the28
3838 press.29
