25 LC 129 0361 Senate Resolution 516 By: Senators Islam Parkes of the 7th, Kemp of the 38th, Wicks of the 34th, Anderson of the 43rd, Mangham of the 55th and others A RESOLUTION Recognizing and commending Georgia's working women for their contributions toward 1 building strong families and supporting the Georgia Economy; and for other purposes.2 WHEREAS, Georgia strives to remain the number one state to do business, and economic3 security is an important concern for women, their children, their partners, and for the health4 of Georgia's communities and economy; and 5 WHEREAS, women comprise more than half of Georgia's adult population and are the6 primary or co-breadwinners in more than half of all Georgia households with children,7 making up over 65 percent of the low-wage, essential worker workforce; and8 WHEREAS, research has shown that policy solutions such as salary transparency, increased9 paid sick days and paid leave, accessible and affordable childcare, stable housing and10 workplace protections have a positive impact on women and families, and would boast the11 Georgia economy by as much as $4.4 billion; and12 WHEREAS, access to healthy foods, clean air and water, public transportation, affordable13 and safe housing, and equitable utility services are all integral to a working woman and her14 family's health and financial stability; and15 S. R. 516 - 1 - 25 LC 129 0361 WHEREAS, protections for pregnant women at work ensures that women remain an integral 16 part of the workforce, have healthy pregnancies and deliveries, and strengthens Georgia17 families; and18 WHEREAS, Georgia currently has the third highest uninsured rate in the country, affordable19 and accessible healthcare equates to a stronger and healthier workforce; and20 WHEREAS, 60 percent of all Georgians cannot access the unpaid Family Medical Leave Act21 due to eligibility or being unable to afford to take leave without pay; implementing policies22 such as paid leave increases women's labor force participation rate.23 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body24 support legislation that would provide the economic support and security that women, their25 families, and the Georgia economy need.26 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed27 to make an appropriate copy of this resolution available for distribution to the public and the28 press.29 S.
