66 Recognizing and commending the interfaith organizations and volunteers involved in disaster

88 cleanup efforts; and for other purposes.2
99 WHEREAS, the State of Georgia has faced numerous natural disasters that have caused3
1010 significant damage and hardship to its residents; and4
1111 WHEREAS, in times of crisis, communities come together to support one another,5
1212 demonstrating the strength and resilience of the human spirit; and6
1313 WHEREAS, interfaith and religious organizations and volunteers have played a crucial role7
1414 in disaster cleanup efforts, providing essential services, resources, and support to those8
1515 affected; and9
1616 WHEREAS, these interfaith efforts have fostered unity, understanding, and cooperation10
1717 among diverse religious communities, showcasing the power of collaboration and11
1818 compassion; and12

2121 WHEREAS, the dedication and hard work of these volunteers has significantly contributed

2323 to the recovery and rebuilding of affected areas, helping to restore hope and normalcy to the14
2424 lives of many Georgians; and15
2525 WHEREAS, according to reports from local faith-based organizations, tens of thousands of16
2626 volunteers participated in disaster relief efforts in Georgia following Hurricane Helene,17
2727 contributing more than one million total volunteer hours, with teams working in some of the18
2828 most impacted areas to clear debris, repair homes, and provide direct assistance to many19
2929 thousands of affected residents; and20
3030 WHEREAS, many churches and faith organizations came to their fellow citizens' needs for21
3131 disaster relief; and 22
3232 WHEREAS, volunteer labor from church members and faith-based organizations, who23
3333 traveled from as far away as South Carolina, North Carolina, Tennessee, and Florida to help24
3434 Georgia homeowners in need, included efforts such as tending to damaged homes, removing25
3535 fallen trees, and cleaning up storm debris.26
3636 NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE that the members of this body27
3737 recognize and commend the invaluable contributions of the interfaith organizations and28
3838 volunteers in disaster cleanup efforts as well as encourage continued support and29
3939 collaboration among all communities to strengthen our collective ability to respond to and30
4040 recover from future disasters.31
4141 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Secretary of the Senate is authorized and directed32
4242 to make appropriate copies of this resolution available for distribution to the leaders of the33
4343 interfaith organizations involved in disaster cleanup efforts.34
