4141 WHEREAS, the freedom and security that United States citizens enjoy today are direct results of the sacrifices and continued vigilance of the United States armed forces over the course of the nation's history; and WHEREAS, public memorials are an important form of recognition for veterans and military personnel who protect the freedom and security of the United States; and WHEREAS, it is both fitting and necessary for the State to give tangible and visible recognition to the sacrifices and contributions of veterans from Hawaii who served and protected the nation's boarders by land, sea, and air; and WHEREAS, public memorials honoring the sacrifices and contributions of veterans from Hawaii will preserve, perpetuate, and share the legacy of Hawaii veterans who served to protect the United States and develop deeper understandings of Hawaii veterans' unique place in Hawaiian, American, and global history; and WHEREAS, public memorials are artistic pieces dedicated to recognizing the sacrifice veterans have made while protecting the freedom and security of the United States; and WHEREAS, the mission of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is to promote, perpetuate, and preserve culture and arts in Hawaii; now, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED by the Senate of the Thirty-second Legislature of the State of Hawaii, Regular Session of 2023, that the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts is requested to collaborate with the Office of Veterans' Services to plan and construct memorials to honor the sacrifices and contributions of veterans from Hawaii; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that certified copies of this Resolution be transmitted to the Executive Director of the Hawaii State Foundation on Culture and the Arts and Director of the Office of Veterans' Services.
