H.F. 2081 Section 1. Section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph a, Code 1 2024, is amended to read as follows: 2 a. Five units of science including . 3 (1) The five units of science shall include physics and 4 chemistry ; the units of physics and chemistry , which may be 5 taught in alternate years. 6 (2) The five units of science may include instruction 7 related to agriculture, which may be offered and taught through 8 dedicated units of coursework or through units of coursework 9 that also meet the requirements of the coursework required 10 under paragraph h , subparagraph (1), subparagraph division 11 (a). 12 Sec. 2. Section 256E.7, subsection 2, paragraph g, Code 13 2024, is amended to read as follows: 14 g. Be subject to and comply with the requirements of section 15 256.7, subsection 21 , and the educational standards of section 16 256.11 , unless specifically waived by the state board during 17 the application process ; provided, however, that the state 18 board shall not waive the educational standards established 19 in section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph a , related to 20 the use of instruction related to agriculture to fulfill unit 21 requirements related to science . 22 Sec. 3. Section 256F.4, subsection 2, Code 2024, is amended 23 by adding the following new paragraph: 24 NEW PARAGRAPH . p. Be subject to and comply with the 25 requirements of section 256.11, subsection 5, paragraph a , 26 relating to the use of instruction related to agriculture to 27 fulfill unit requirements related to science in the same manner 28 as a school district. 29 EXPLANATION 30 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 31 the explanations substance by the members of the general assembly. 32 This bill modifies provisions related to the curriculum 33 provided to students enrolled in grades 9 through 12 in school 34 districts, accredited nonpublic schools, charter schools, and 35 -1- LSB 5682YH (1) 90 jda/jh 1/ 2
H.F. 2081 innovation zone schools by allowing instruction related to 1 agriculture to meet a portion of the unit requirements related 2 to science.
