H.F. _____ Section 1. NEW SECTION . 279.77 Student teacher 1 compensation. 2 1. The board of directors of a school district may 3 compensate a student who is fulfilling the requirements 4 associated with the student teaching experience established 5 pursuant to section 256.16, subsection 1, paragraph c , at 6 the school district an amount not more than the lowest annual 7 salary the board of directors of the school district pays to a 8 teacher employed by the school district, prorated to the number 9 of days the student is present at the school district during 10 the student teaching experience. 11 2. A school district may make payment to the student teacher 12 subject to the student teacher agreeing to be a full-time 13 employee with the school district upon completion of the 14 student teachers practitioner preparation program for a period 15 of years, not to exceed five. Such an agreement may contain 16 a provision requiring the student teacher to repay the school 17 district for amounts received while student teaching if the 18 student teacher is offered full-time employment with the school 19 district but does not work for the district as a full-time 20 employee for the term specified in the agreement. 21 EXPLANATION 22 The inclusion of this explanation does not constitute agreement with 23 the explanations substance by the members of the general assembly. 24 This bill relates to school district compensation of student 25 teachers. 26 The bill authorizes the board of directors of a school 27 district to compensate a student teacher at the school district 28 an amount not more than the lowest annual salary the school 29 district pays to a teacher employed by the school district, 30 prorated to the number of days the student is present at the 31 school district during the student teaching experience.
