1  AN ACT concerning transportation.
2  Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
3  represented in the General Assembly:
4  Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by adding
5  Section 3-699.22 as follows:
6  (625 ILCS 5/3-699.22 new)
7  Sec. 3-699.22. United States Submarine Veterans plates.
8  (a) The Secretary of State, upon receipt of all applicable
9  fees and applications made in the form prescribed by the
10  Secretary, may issue special registration plates designated as
11  United States Submarine Veterans plates to each resident of
12  this State who served in the United States Navy as a
13  submariner. The special plates issued under this Section shall
14  be affixed only to passenger vehicles of the first division,
15  motorcycles, and motor vehicles of the second division
16  weighing not more than 8,000 pounds. Plates under this Section
17  shall expire according to the multi-year procedure established
18  by Section 3-414.1.
19  (b) The plates shall display the United States Submarine
20  Veterans logo and the phrase "Silent Service". In all other
21  respects, the design and color of the special plates shall be
22  wholly within the discretion of the Secretary. Appropriate
23  documentation, as determined by the Secretary, shall accompany

1  each application. The Secretary, in the Secretary's
2  discretion, may allow the plates to be issued as vanity plates
3  or personalized in accordance with Section 3-405.1. The plates
4  are not required to designate "Land of Lincoln", as prescribed
5  in subsection (b) of Section 3-412. The Secretary shall
6  prescribe the eligibility requirements and, in his or her
7  discretion, shall approve and prescribe stickers or decals as
8  provided under Section 3-412.
