1111 1 AN ACT concerning transportation.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
1515 5 changing Section 3-806.7 as follows:

1717 7 Sec. 3-806.7. Registration fees for active duty military
1818 8 personnel and veterans.
1919 9 (a) Beginning with the 2011 registration year, the
2020 10 standard registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this
2121 11 Code for passenger motor vehicles of the first division and
2222 12 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
2323 13 8,000 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code,
2424 14 shall be reduced by 50% for any Illinois vehicle owner who was
2525 15 on active duty as a member of the Armed Forces of the United
2626 16 States and stationed outside of the United States for a period
2727 17 of 90 days or longer during the preceding registration year.
2828 18 (b) Illinois residents who are members of the Armed Forces
2929 19 of the United States and who have been stationed outside of the
3030 20 United States for a period of 6 months or longer, and who
3131 21 placed their registered motor vehicle in storage during the
3232 22 time they served abroad, shall be entitled to credit for the
3333 23 unused portion of that registration when they renew the

6868 1 registration of that vehicle upon their return to the United
6969 2 States. For each month or part thereof that the vehicle was in
7070 3 storage and had current registration, the member of the armed
7171 4 forces shall receive one month of registration without charge.
7272 5 (c) Beginning with the 2017 registration year, the
7373 6 standard registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this
7474 7 Code for passenger motor vehicles of the first division and
7575 8 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
7676 9 8,000 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code,
7777 10 shall be waived for the year following the return of any
7878 11 Illinois vehicle owner who is a member of the active-duty or
7979 12 reserve component of the United States Armed Forces who can
8080 13 provide proof of serving in a combat mission. Nothing in this
8181 14 subsection is applicable to the additional fees incurred by
8282 15 specialty, personalized, or vanity license plates.
8383 16 (d) Beginning with the 2025 registration year, the
8484 17 standard registration fee under Section 3-806 of this Code for
8585 18 passenger motor vehicles of the first division and motor
8686 19 vehicles of the second division weighing not more than 8,000
8787 20 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code shall
8888 21 be reduced by 50% for any Illinois vehicle owner who has been
8989 22 identified as a veteran under subsection (e) of Section 6-106
9090 23 of this Code. Nothing in this subsection (d) prevents the
9191 24 application of the registration fee waiver provided under
9292 25 subsection (c) of this Section.
