11	11	1 AN ACT concerning transportation.
12	12	2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
13	13	3 represented in the General Assembly:
14	14	4 Section 5. The Illinois Vehicle Code is amended by
15	15	5 changing Section 3-806.7 as follows:
16	16	6 (625 ILCS 5/3-806.7)
17	17	7 Sec. 3-806.7. Registration fees for active duty military
18	18	8 personnel and veterans.
19	19	9 (a) Beginning with the 2011 registration year, the
20	20	10 standard registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this
21	21	11 Code for passenger motor vehicles of the first division and
22	22	12 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
23	23	13 8,000 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code,
24	24	14 shall be reduced by 50% for any Illinois vehicle owner who was
25	25	15 on active duty as a member of the Armed Forces of the United
26	26	16 States and stationed outside of the United States for a period
27	27	17 of 90 days or longer during the preceding registration year.
28	28	18 (b) Illinois residents who are members of the Armed Forces
29	29	19 of the United States and who have been stationed outside of the
30	30	20 United States for a period of 6 months or longer, and who
31	31	21 placed their registered motor vehicle in storage during the
32	32	22 time they served abroad, shall be entitled to credit for the
33	33	23 unused portion of that registration when they renew the

68	68	1 registration of that vehicle upon their return to the United
69	69	2 States. For each month or part thereof that the vehicle was in
70	70	3 storage and had current registration, the member of the armed
71	71	4 forces shall receive one month of registration without charge.
72	72	5 (c) Beginning with the 2017 registration year, the
73	73	6 standard registration fee set forth in Section 3-806 of this
74	74	7 Code for passenger motor vehicles of the first division and
75	75	8 motor vehicles of the second division weighing not more than
76	76	9 8,000 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code,
77	77	10 shall be waived for the year following the return of any
78	78	11 Illinois vehicle owner who is a member of the active-duty or
79	79	12 reserve component of the United States Armed Forces who can
80	80	13 provide proof of serving in a combat mission. Nothing in this
81	81	14 subsection is applicable to the additional fees incurred by
82	82	15 specialty, personalized, or vanity license plates.
83	83	16 (d) Beginning with the 2025 registration year, the
84	84	17 standard registration fee under Section 3-806 of this Code for
85	85	18 passenger motor vehicles of the first division and motor
86	86	19 vehicles of the second division weighing not more than 8,000
87	87	20 pounds and registered under Section 3-815 of this Code shall
88	88	21 be reduced by 50% for any Illinois vehicle owner who has been
89	89	22 identified as a veteran under subsection (e) of Section 6-106
90	90	23 of this Code. Nothing in this subsection (d) prevents the
91	91	24 application of the registration fee waiver provided under
92	92	25 subsection (c) of this Section.
