4-AN ACT concerning health.
5-Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
6-represented in the General Assembly:
7-Section 5. The Lyme Disease Prevention and Protection Act
8-is amended by changing Section 15 as follows:

10-Sec. 15. Lyme Disease Task Force; duties; members.
11-(a) The Department shall establish the Lyme Disease Task
12-Force to advise the Department on disease prevention and
13-surveillance and provider and public education relating to the
14-disease.
15-(b) The Task Force shall consist of the Director of Public
16-Health or a designee, who shall serve as chairman, and the
17-following members:
18-(1) one representative from the Department of
19-Financial and Professional Regulation, appointed by the
20-Director of Public Health;
21-(2) 3 physicians licensed to practice medicine in all
22-its branches who are members of a statewide organization
23-representing physicians, one of whom represents a medical
24-school faculty and one of whom has the experience of
25-treating Lyme disease, appointed by the Director of Public
26-Health;

34-from the recommendations of professional nursing
35-associations, appointed by the Director of Public Health;
36-(4) one local public health administrator, appointed
37-by the Director of Public Health;
38-(5) one veterinarian, who must be a practicing Doctor
39-of Veterinary Medicine, appointed by the Director of
40-Public Health;
41-(6) one medical entomologist, appointed by the
42-Director of Public Health;
43-(7) (6) 4 members of the public interested in Lyme
44-disease, appointed by the Director of Public Health;
45-(8) (7) 2 members appointed by the Speaker of the
46-House of Representatives;
47-(9) (8) 2 members appointed by the Minority Leader of
48-the House of Representatives;
49-(10) (9) 2 members appointed by the President of the
50-Senate; and
51-(11) (10) 2 members appointed by the Minority Leader
52-of the Senate.
53-(c) The terms of the members of the Task Force shall be 3
54-years. Members may continue to serve after the expiration of a
55-term until a new member is appointed. Each member appointed to
56-fill a vacancy occurring prior to the expiration of the term
57-for which his predecessor was appointed shall be appointed for
58-the remainder of such term. The council shall meet as

54+21 (c) The terms of the members of the Task Force shall be 3

62-4 2 times each year. Members shall receive no compensation for
63-their services.
64-(d) The Lyme Disease Task Force has the following duties
65-and responsibilities:
66-(1) monitoring the implementation of this Act and
67-providing feedback and input for necessary additions or
68-modifications;
69-(2) reviewing relevant literature and guidelines that
70-define accurate diagnosis of Lyme disease with the purpose
71-of creating cohesive and consistent guidelines for the
72-determination of Lyme diagnosis across all counties in
73-Illinois and with the intent of providing accurate and
74-relevant numbers to the Centers for Disease Control and
75-Prevention;
76-(3) providing recommendations on professional
77-continuing educational materials and opportunities that
78-specifically focus on Lyme disease prevention, protection,
79-and treatment; and
80-(4) assisting the Department in establishing policies,
81-procedures, techniques, and criteria for the collection,
82-maintenance, exchange, and sharing of medical information
83-on Lyme disease, and identifying persons or entities with
84-Lyme disease expertise to collaborate with Department in
85-Lyme disease diagnosis, prevention, and treatment.
