Provides that, to ensure that foster parents who foster children with diabetes have the knowledge and tools they need to provide and advocate for their foster children's proper care, the Department of Children and Family Services shall provide eligible foster parents with training on diabetes care, including training on insulin pump therapy, general diabetes management, carbohydrate counting, how to administer insulin with an insulin pen or syringe, and how to identify the warning signs of low blood sugar and diabetic ketoacidosis. 1111 1 AN ACT concerning State government.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Children and Family Services Act is amended
1515 5 by adding Section 35.4 as follows:
1616 6 (20 ILCS 505/35.4 new)
1717 7 Sec. 35.4. Diabetes care training; foster parents. To
1818 8 ensure that foster parents who foster children with diabetes
1919 9 have the knowledge and tools they need to provide and advocate
2020 10 for their foster children's proper care, the Department shall
2121 11 provide eligible foster parents with training on diabetes
2222 12 care, including training on insulin pump therapy, general
2323 13 diabetes management, carbohydrate counting, how to administer
2424 14 insulin with an insulin pen or syringe, and how to identify the
2525 15 warning signs of low blood sugar and diabetic ketoacidosis.
2626 16 The Department may adopt any rules necessary to implement this
2727 17 Section.
