The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business 5 Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2BBBB as follows: 6 (815 ILCS 505/2BBBB new) 7 Sec. 2BBBB. Gas stoves. 8 (a) As used in this Section, "gas stove" means a household 9 natural gas stove or range that is used for food preparation 10 and provides at least one of the following functions: 11 (1) surface cooking; 12 (2) oven cooking; or 13 (3) broiling. 14 (b) No person shall sell, attempt to sell, or offer to sell 15 to a consumer in this State a gas stove that is manufactured on 16 or after January 1, 2024 unless a label on the gas stove bears 17 the message: 18 WARNING: Gas stoves can release nitrogen dioxide and 19 carbon monoxide inside homes at levels exceeding the EPA's 20 standards for outdoor air quality. The presence of these 21 pollutants may exacerbate pre existing respiratory 22 illnesses or lead to the development of asthma, especially 23 in children.
