311 1 AN ACT concerning business.
412 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
513 3 represented in the General Assembly:
614 4 Section 5. The Consumer Fraud and Deceptive Business
715 5 Practices Act is amended by adding Section 2BBBB as follows:
816 6 (815 ILCS 505/2BBBB new)
917 7 Sec. 2BBBB. Gas stoves.
1018 8 (a) As used in this Section, "gas stove" means a household
1119 9 natural gas stove or range that is used for food preparation
1220 10 and provides at least one of the following functions:
1321 11 (1) surface cooking;
1422 12 (2) oven cooking; or
1523 13 (3) broiling.
1624 14 (b) No person shall sell, attempt to sell, or offer to sell
1725 15 to a consumer in this State a gas stove that is manufactured on
1826 16 or after January 1, 2024 unless a label on the gas stove bears
1927 17 the message:
2028 18 WARNING: Gas stoves can release nitrogen dioxide and
2129 19 carbon monoxide inside homes at levels exceeding the EPA's
2230 20 standards for outdoor air quality. The presence of these
23-21 pollutants may exacerbate pre-existing respiratory
31+21 pollutants may exacerbate pre existing respiratory
2432 22 illnesses or lead to the development of asthma, especially
2533 23 in children. Gas powered stoves should never be used
