11 103RD GENERAL ASSEMBLY State of Illinois 2023 and 2024 HB3682 Introduced , by Rep. Harry Benton SYNOPSIS AS INTRODUCED: 20 ILCS 1305/10-71 new Amends the Department of Human Services Act. Creates the Opioid Crisis Committee. Provides that the purpose of the Commission shall be to study the opioid crisis across the nation and the State. Provides that the Commission shall develop strategies and policies to reduce the number of overdoses and deaths due to opioids in the State. Provides that the Commission shall ensure that any policy developed will be equitably accessible across historically marginalized groups and in both rural and urban areas. Provides that the Commission shall consist of members appointed by the Department of Human Services. Provides that the Department of Human Services shall provide administrative assistance and necessary staff support services. Provides that the Commission shall issue a report on the findings and strategies developed by the Commission to the General Assembly and the Governor. 1111 1 AN ACT concerning State government.
1212 2 Be it enacted by the People of the State of Illinois,
1313 3 represented in the General Assembly:
1414 4 Section 5. The Department of Human Services Act is amended
1515 5 by adding Section 10-71 as follows:
1616 6 (20 ILCS 1305/10-71 new)
1717 7 Sec. 10-71. Opioid Crisis Committee.
1818 8 (a) The Department shall establish the Opioid Crisis
1919 9 Committee. The purpose of the Commission shall be to study the
2020 10 opioid crisis across the nation and the State. The Commission
2121 11 shall develop strategies and policies to reduce the number of
2222 12 overdoses and deaths due to opioids in the State. The
2323 13 Commission shall ensure that any policy developed will be
2424 14 equitably accessible across historically marginalized groups
2525 15 and in both rural and urban areas.
2626 16 (b) The Commission shall consist of members appointed by
2727 17 the Department of Human Services.
2828 18 (c) The Department shall provide administrative assistance
2929 19 and necessary staff support services.
3030 20 (d) The Commission shall issue a report on the findings
3131 21 and strategies developed by the Commission pursuant to
3232 22 subsection (a) to the General Assembly and the Governor. The
3333 23 Commission shall be dissolved upon delivery of the report to
