1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives wish to congratulate Darrell Levell "Mr.
4 Wimbo" Wimberly on 19 years of service to Marion High School
5 and recognize him for his positive impact on the lives of
6 thousands of Marion students, parents, residents, and
7 community members; and
8 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was born in Louisville, Kentucky
9 on August 23, 1961; and
10 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly was a standout athlete at Butler
11 High School in Louisville, where he starred in football and
12 basketball; and
13 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly attended the University of
14 Louisville from 1978 to 1982 and found great success as a
15 linebacker; and
16 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly tried out for the NFL with the
17 New York Jets, but life had bigger plans for him; and
18 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly had a successful career selling
19 insurance for Commonwealth Life Insurance in the Louisville
20 area for 20 years; and

1 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly moved to Marion in the year
2 2000, where he sold insurance for five years before applying
3 for a job with Marion High School; and
4 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly worked as a volunteer football
5 coach at Marion High School starting in 2000; he became the
6 dean of students at Marion High School in July 2002 and worked
7 as an administrator, football coach, and basketball coach for
8 more than 20 years; and
9 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as a mentor,
10 advocate, and role model for thousands of Marion High School
11 athletes and students, bettering their lives; and
12 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly has served as pastor at East
13 Liberty Church in rural Marion since 2002, where he has helped
14 lead several Marion residents through their spiritual
15 journeys; and
16 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly served as a guest speaker,
17 prayer leader, and preacher at various Marion area weddings,
18 funerals, vigils, and community gatherings and served on
19 countless boards, committees, and community organizations; and
20 WHEREAS, With his positivity, Darrell Wimberly has

1 provided inspiration and guidance to his fellow coaches,
2 administrators, and teachers through his service to students
3 and his community; and
4 WHEREAS, Darrell Wimberly married Deon Wimberly on
5 December 22, 1994 and is the proud and dedicated father of five
6 children; therefore, be it
7 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
8 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
9 we congratulate Darrell Levell "Mr. Wimbo" Wimberly on 19
10 years of service to Marion High School and wish him the very
11 best for the future in recognition of his retirement from
12 education; and be it further
13 RESOLVED, That we recognize Darrell Wimberly for his
14 positive impact on the lives of thousands of Marion students,
15 parents, residents, and community members; and be it further
16 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
17 presented to Darrell Wimberly as a symbol of our respect and
18 esteem.
