44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lilly
66 4 Mae Patterson of Chicago, who passed away on July 1, 2023; and
77 5 WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was born in Marianna,
88 6 Arkansas on October 3, 1918; she moved to Chicago as a teenager
99 7 and attended DuSable High School and Wilson Junior College;
1010 8 she married Wilbert Patterson in 1936, and they were together
1111 9 for 47 years until his passing in 1983; and
1212 10 WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson worked for Cook County, the
1313 11 City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson volunteered in the 4th Ward
1515 13 of Chicago for over 50 years and served as a precinct captain;
1616 14 and
1717 15 WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson lived in the communities of
1818 16 Bronzeville, Woodlawn, and South Shore and was an avid rider
1919 17 of the CTA for over 70 years; and
2020 18 WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was a member of Christ
2121 19 Universal Temple for over 57 years; and

3030 1 WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was known as a walking
3131 2 English teacher and historian; and
3232 3 WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was a mother, grandmother,
3333 4 great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; therefore, be

3535 6 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
3636 7 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
3737 8 we mourn the passing of Lilly Mae Patterson and extend our
3838 9 sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
3939 10 and loved her; and be it further
4040 11 RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
4141 12 presented to the family of Lilly Mae Patterson as an
4242 13 expression of our deepest sympathy.
