1  HOUSE RESOLUTION
2  WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3  Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Lilly
4  Mae Patterson of Chicago, who passed away on July 1, 2023; and
5  WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was born in Marianna,
6  Arkansas on October 3, 1918; she moved to Chicago as a teenager
7  and attended DuSable High School and Wilson Junior College;
8  she married Wilbert Patterson in 1936, and they were together
9  for 47 years until his passing in 1983; and
10  WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson worked for Cook County, the
11  City of Chicago, and the State of Illinois; and
12  WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson volunteered in the 4th Ward
13  of Chicago for over 50 years and served as a precinct captain;
14  and
15  WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson lived in the communities of
16  Bronzeville, Woodlawn, and South Shore and was an avid rider
17  of the CTA for over 70 years; and
18  WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was a member of Christ
19  Universal Temple for over 57 years; and

1  WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was known as a walking
2  English teacher and historian; and
3  WHEREAS, Lilly Mae Patterson was a mother, grandmother,
4  great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother; therefore, be
5  it
6  RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
7  HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
8  we mourn the passing of Lilly Mae Patterson and extend our
9  sincere condolences to her family, friends, and all who knew
10  and loved her; and be it further
11  RESOLVED, That a suitable copy of this resolution be
12  presented to the family of Lilly Mae Patterson as an
13  expression of our deepest sympathy.
