4	4	2 WHEREAS, Ninety-four duly elected county coroners, seven
5	5	3 duly elected county sheriff-coroners, and one duly appointed
6	6	4 county medical examiner, along with their respective staff
7	7	5 members, provide medicolegal death investigation services to
8	8	6 the people of the State of Illinois and visitors to our state;
9	9	7 and
10	10	8 WHEREAS, These medicolegal death investigation
11	11	9 professionals are essential to the criminal justice system,
12	12	10 public safety, and the public health of the State of Illinois;
13	13	11 and
14	14	12 WHEREAS, These medicolegal death investigation
15	15	13 professionals diligently perform their duties making inquiry
16	16	14 into the manner and cause of an individual's death under
17	17	15 physically and emotionally demanding conditions, including,
18	18	16 but not limited to, the deaths of children, the current opiate
19	19	17 epidemic, the recent COVID-19 pandemic, victims of violence at
20	20	18 the hands of another, and a never-ending litany of deaths that
21	21	19 occur under harsh, unexpected, and other tragic circumstances;
22	22	20 and
23	23	21 WHEREAS, These medicolegal death investigation
24	24	22 professionals serve as an advocate for the deceased, give

34	34	2 seek answers to extremely difficult questions, serving the
35	35	3 needs of the survivors left behind and the good of the public
36	36	4 welfare; and
37	37	5 WHEREAS, These medicolegal death investigation
38	38	6 professionals pursue further training and education through
39	39	7 the Illinois Coroner Training Board, the Illinois Coroners and
40	40	8 Medical Examiners Association, the International Association
41	41	9 of Coroners and Medical Examiners, the American Board of
42	42	10 Medicolegal Death Investigators, the National Association of
43	43	11 Medical Examiners, and a host of other related organizations
44	44	12 to continue their professional development as skilled,
45	45	13 qualified, ethical, and knowledgeable investigators, fiercely
46	46	14 loyal to the mission they serve that so often goes without
47	47	15 recognition or accolade; therefore, be it
48	48	16 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
49	49	17 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
50	50	18 we declare the week of January 21 through January 27, 2024 as
51	51	19 Medicolegal Death Investigation Professionals Week in honor of
52	52	20 the coroners, deputy coroners, medical examiners, support and
53	53	21 ancillary staff, forensic pathologists, and medicolegal death
54	54	22 investigators for their ongoing commitment of service to the
55	55	23 citizens of Illinois and their communities; and be it further
