44 2 WHEREAS, Over 100 million operations and procedures are
55 3 performed every year with anesthesia, and physician
66 4 anesthesiologists play a critical role, before, during, and
77 5 after procedures, making patient safety their top priority;

99 7 WHEREAS, Anesthesia is safer than ever before, but there
1010 8 is always potential for complications and side effects;
1111 9 physician anesthesiologists have the training and expertise to
1212 10 help minimize risks, monitor for any problems, and take quick
1313 11 action; and
1414 12 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are required to
1515 13 complete 12 or more years of post-secondary education, at
1616 14 least 12,000 hours of clinical training, and additional months
1717 15 of training in intensive care and subspecialty units; and
1818 16 WHEREAS, When seconds count and when emergencies or
1919 17 complications occur unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists
2020 18 draw on their extensive medical education and years of
2121 19 clinical training and experience to make critical decisions
2222 20 that save lives; and
2323 21 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are committed to high

3434 3 complication, and to improve recovery from surgery; and
3535 4 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are recognized
3636 5 leaders uniquely suited to prevent opioid abuse and misuse by
3737 6 employing opioid-minimizing techniques while ensuring patients
3838 7 have access to appropriate pain treatments; therefore, be it
3939 8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4040 9 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4141 10 we declare January 28 through February 3, 2024 as Physician
4242 11 Anesthesiologists Week in the State of Illinois and ask all
4343 12 citizens to join us in recognizing physician
4444 13 anesthesiologists, who have developed the techniques and
4545 14 protocols that have greatly improved the safety of
4646 15 anesthesiology and the well-being of surgical patients each
