4	4	2 WHEREAS, Over 100 million operations and procedures are
5	5	3 performed every year with anesthesia, and physician
6	6	4 anesthesiologists play a critical role, before, during, and
7	7	5 after procedures, making patient safety their top priority;
8	8	6 and
9	9	7 WHEREAS, Anesthesia is safer than ever before, but there
10	10	8 is always potential for complications and side effects;
11	11	9 physician anesthesiologists have the training and expertise to
12	12	10 help minimize risks, monitor for any problems, and take quick
13	13	11 action; and
14	14	12 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are required to
15	15	13 complete 12 or more years of post-secondary education, at
16	16	14 least 12,000 hours of clinical training, and additional months
17	17	15 of training in intensive care and subspecialty units; and
18	18	16 WHEREAS, When seconds count and when emergencies or
19	19	17 complications occur unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists
20	20	18 draw on their extensive medical education and years of
21	21	19 clinical training and experience to make critical decisions
22	22	20 that save lives; and
23	23	21 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are committed to high

32	32	1 quality and safe patient care and to educating patients to
33	33	2 make their anesthesia even safer, to reduce risk of
34	34	3 complication, and to improve recovery from surgery; and
35	35	4 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are recognized
36	36	5 leaders uniquely suited to prevent opioid abuse and misuse by
37	37	6 employing opioid-minimizing techniques while ensuring patients
38	38	7 have access to appropriate pain treatments; therefore, be it
39	39	8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
40	40	9 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
41	41	10 we declare January 28 through February 3, 2024 as Physician
42	42	11 Anesthesiologists Week in the State of Illinois and ask all
43	43	12 citizens to join us in recognizing physician
44	44	13 anesthesiologists, who have developed the techniques and
45	45	14 protocols that have greatly improved the safety of
46	46	15 anesthesiology and the well-being of surgical patients each
