1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, Over 100 million operations and procedures are
3 performed every year with anesthesia, and physician
4 anesthesiologists play a critical role, before, during, and
5 after procedures, making patient safety their top priority;
6 and
7 WHEREAS, Anesthesia is safer than ever before, but there
8 is always potential for complications and side effects;
9 physician anesthesiologists have the training and expertise to
10 help minimize risks, monitor for any problems, and take quick
11 action; and
12 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are required to
13 complete 12 or more years of post-secondary education, at
14 least 12,000 hours of clinical training, and additional months
15 of training in intensive care and subspecialty units; and
16 WHEREAS, When seconds count and when emergencies or
17 complications occur unexpectedly, physician anesthesiologists
18 draw on their extensive medical education and years of
19 clinical training and experience to make critical decisions
20 that save lives; and
21 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are committed to high

1 quality and safe patient care and to educating patients to
2 make their anesthesia even safer, to reduce risk of
3 complication, and to improve recovery from surgery; and
4 WHEREAS, Physician anesthesiologists are recognized
5 leaders uniquely suited to prevent opioid abuse and misuse by
6 employing opioid-minimizing techniques while ensuring patients
7 have access to appropriate pain treatments; therefore, be it
8 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
9 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
10 we declare January 28 through February 3, 2024 as Physician
11 Anesthesiologists Week in the State of Illinois and ask all
12 citizens to join us in recognizing physician
13 anesthesiologists, who have developed the techniques and
14 protocols that have greatly improved the safety of
15 anesthesiology and the well-being of surgical patients each
16 day; and be it further
