| 6 | 6 | | 4 Police Department K9 Officer Nyx, who was killed in the line of |

| 7 | 7 | | 5 duty on January 28, 2024; and |

| 8 | 8 | | 6 WHEREAS, Nyx was a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois from |

| 9 | 9 | | 7 Belarus who completed her training in 2018 before joining the |
|---|
| 10 | 10 | | 8 department on October 1st of that same year; she was trained in |
|---|
| 11 | 11 | | 9 narcotics detection, evidence recovery, human tracking, and |
|---|
| 12 | 12 | | 10 apprehension; and |
|---|
| 13 | 13 | | 11 WHEREAS, Nyx was a trailblazer in the Rockford Police |

| 14 | 14 | | 12 Department; she was the first female dog that provided these |
|---|
| 15 | 15 | | 13 services in the Rockford community; and |
|---|
| 16 | 16 | | 14 WHEREAS, Nyx and her partner, Officer Vargas, were |
|---|
| 17 | 17 | | 15 dedicated to protecting and serving their community and |
|---|
| 18 | 18 | | 16 apprehending violent offenders; Officer Vargas is left with |
|---|
| 19 | 19 | | 17 the responsibility of carrying out their duties in her honor; |
