1 HOUSE RESOLUTION
2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
3 Representatives are saddened to learn of the death of Rockford
4 Police Department K9 Officer Nyx, who was killed in the line of
5 duty on January 28, 2024; and
6 WHEREAS, Nyx was a seven-year-old Belgian Malinois from
7 Belarus who completed her training in 2018 before joining the
8 department on October 1st of that same year; she was trained in
9 narcotics detection, evidence recovery, human tracking, and
10 apprehension; and
11 WHEREAS, Nyx was a trailblazer in the Rockford Police
12 Department; she was the first female dog that provided these
13 services in the Rockford community; and
14 WHEREAS, Nyx and her partner, Officer Vargas, were
15 dedicated to protecting and serving their community and
16 apprehending violent offenders; Officer Vargas is left with
17 the responsibility of carrying out their duties in her honor;
18 therefore, be it
19 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
20 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
21 we mourn the passing of Nyx and extend our sincere condolences
