44 2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
55 3 Representatives wish to congratulate Captain Clay Childers of
66 4 the Metropolis Fire Department on the occasion of being
77 5 awarded the 2024 Medal of Valor by the Office of the State Fire
88 6 Marshal; and
99 7 WHEREAS, The Medal of Valor award is given by the State of
1010 8 Illinois to a firefighter for an act of heroism or bravery that
1111 9 clearly demonstrated courage and dedication in the face of
1212 10 danger while in the performance of duty; and
1313 11 WHEREAS, On October 23, 2023, Capt. Childers entered the
1414 12 home of a Metropolis resident while the structure was on fire;
1515 13 upon entering the structure, he discovered a person suffering
1616 14 from smoke inhalation and proceeded to carry the victim to
1717 15 safety, saving her life in the process; and
1818 16 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Capt. Childers has
1919 17 consistently demonstrated his unwavering commitment to
2020 18 protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Illinois,
2121 19 placing himself in harm's way to ensure the safety of others
2222 20 while displaying remarkable bravery and heroism; and
2323 21 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers' dedication to serving the

3333 2 actions, has undoubtedly saved countless lives and prevented
3434 3 untold property damage; and
3535 4 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers serves as a shining example of the
3636 5 bravery, professionalism, and heroism that define the
3737 6 firefighting profession; and
3838 7 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers will be honored at the 31st Annual
3939 8 Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial & Firefighting Medal of
4040 9 Honor Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2024; therefore, be it
4141 10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
4242 11 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
4343 12 we congratulate Captain Clay Childers of the Metropolis Fire
4444 13 Department on receiving the 2024 Medal of Valor award by the
4545 14 Office of the State Fire Marshal; and be it further
