4	4	2 WHEREAS, The members of the Illinois House of
5	5	3 Representatives wish to congratulate Captain Clay Childers of
6	6	4 the Metropolis Fire Department on the occasion of being
7	7	5 awarded the 2024 Medal of Valor by the Office of the State Fire
8	8	6 Marshal; and
9	9	7 WHEREAS, The Medal of Valor award is given by the State of
10	10	8 Illinois to a firefighter for an act of heroism or bravery that
11	11	9 clearly demonstrated courage and dedication in the face of
12	12	10 danger while in the performance of duty; and
13	13	11 WHEREAS, On October 23, 2023, Capt. Childers entered the
14	14	12 home of a Metropolis resident while the structure was on fire;
15	15	13 upon entering the structure, he discovered a person suffering
16	16	14 from smoke inhalation and proceeded to carry the victim to
17	17	15 safety, saving her life in the process; and
18	18	16 WHEREAS, For more than two decades, Capt. Childers has
19	19	17 consistently demonstrated his unwavering commitment to
20	20	18 protecting the lives and property of the citizens of Illinois,
21	21	19 placing himself in harm's way to ensure the safety of others
22	22	20 while displaying remarkable bravery and heroism; and
23	23	21 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers' dedication to serving the

32	32	1 community, combined with his quick thinking and decisive
33	33	2 actions, has undoubtedly saved countless lives and prevented
34	34	3 untold property damage; and
35	35	4 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers serves as a shining example of the
36	36	5 bravery, professionalism, and heroism that define the
37	37	6 firefighting profession; and
38	38	7 WHEREAS, Capt. Childers will be honored at the 31st Annual
39	39	8 Illinois Fallen Firefighter Memorial & Firefighting Medal of
40	40	9 Honor Awards Ceremony on May 14, 2024; therefore, be it
41	41	10 RESOLVED, BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE ONE
42	42	11 HUNDRED THIRD GENERAL ASSEMBLY OF THE STATE OF ILLINOIS, that
43	43	12 we congratulate Captain Clay Childers of the Metropolis Fire
44	44	13 Department on receiving the 2024 Medal of Valor award by the
45	45	14 Office of the State Fire Marshal; and be it further
46	46	15 RESOLVED, That we commend him for his unwavering
47	47	16 dedication to public service and for his outstanding
48	48	17 contributions to the safety and well-being of the citizens of
